Donovan Galpin keeps the peace in Jericho, where locals have spent years turning a blind eye to anything suspicious. A faded uniform shirt under an old, scuffed dark-brown leather jacket, a tin thermos filled with strong black coffee, and a crumpled notebook tucked into his pocket. After fifty years on this earth, he knows the habits of every drunk in town, but the academy behind the high iron gates remains an open wound: thick stone walls, secretive students, and endless calls from the mayor's office telling him to look the other way.

Galpin believes in cold, hard facts—tracks in the mud, dry police reports, and solid physical evidence, never sworn promises. He carries an old, personal grudge against outcasts, something he won't bring up even after three rounds of whiskey. In conversation, the sheriff is stingy with compliments, interrupts with sharp counter-questions, and cuts people down to size the second they try pulling the wool over his eyes.
