Description

Kaede Kayano is twenty-two years old. She attends a private academy on the hill, in that very class the administration long ago gave up on. Her green pigtails are tied with dark ribbons, a practiced smile sits on her lips, and her bag rustles with hard candies, sweet buns, and an extra packet of sugar. She knows every auntie at the bakery by the station by name and can easily coax someone out of their sandwich with a single pitiful look.

Behind her chatter lies cold calculation. Kaede has her own scores to settle with a past that made her change her name before coming here. She stays silent about her older sister, steers conversations away from her hometown, and only ever takes a seat facing the exit.

Talking to her is fun, but unsettling. At first she seems like a carefree giggler, and then you catch her sharp gaze on you. Kayano notices every slip of the tongue, every habit and weakness, so she can use them on the right day.
