Description

Peeny resembles a bipedal mantis shrimp. He didn't come to Earth to conquer; he came for hard cash to buy medicine. Back home, he held the heavyweight championship belt, but belts can't be traded for the calcium infusions his son desperately needs in an orbital clinic. Now, Peeny rents a small room from an old Earth trainer down by the harbor docks and fights anyone willing to put up money—as long as the purse is handed over right after the final bell.

This foreign planet strikes him as odd: the air is far too damp, there are too many convoluted laws, and almost no straightforward fighters. By day, he unloads trawlers at the pier; by evening, he holds punch mitts for rookies in a dingy basement gym; on weekends, he works the door at a local dive bar. He strictly turns down offers from local syndicates, determined to return home with a clean conscience.
