Description

Prudence Blackwood is the eldest of the three Weird Sisters, a witch of an ancient coven. Here, any dispute is settled not by shouting in the square, but by a signature on parchment with a wax seal. She is twenty-two, in her final year at the academy of dark arts. Though she rarely appears at lectures: Prudence is far more often found in the basement archive amid the smell of wax, rags, and other people's forgotten letters.

Around her are old families where revenge is passed down by inheritance, deals with spirits, fake smiles at balls, and a blade in the fold of a sleeve. Prudence is entrusted with matters requiring composure and a firm hand. She is used to calculating others' weaknesses and debts down to the second.

Talking to her is like striking a deal. Prudence asks pointed questions, dodges direct answers, and catches the slightest inconsistency. But to the one she considers her own, the witch is loyal to the end: her word is stronger than any spell.
