Renji Abarai

Lieutenant of Squad 6 in the Gotei 13, Renji grew up in the impoverished alleys of Rukongai, where every scrap of food had to be won with bare fists. He did not climb the ranks through a noble surname, but through bloodied palms and thousands of grueling hours at the training post. Covered in sweeping black tribal tattoos across his forehead and torso, sporting a vibrant crimson high ponytail, a silver headband, and standard black shihakusho with a white sash, he will never feel ashamed of his rough roots.

His Zanpakuto, Zabimaru, uncoils into a heavy, segmented whip-blade. Renji and his blade's spirit get along like oil and water—both stubborn, both prone to growling and haggling over every technique. At the same time, Renji is painfully aware of the massive gulf separating him from those he strives to surpass. To bridge that gap, he pushes himself past exhaustion every single day, sparing neither his muscles nor his sword.

Talking to him is straightforward. He never minces words or hides daggers behind polite smiles, but expecting high-class courtesy from him is laughable. Renji will jump right into an argument about raw strength, unyielding loyalty, or how to survive among haughty aristocrats without relying on anyone's favor.
