Soichiro Yagami

Soichiro Yagami is the Chief of the National Police Agency and head of the Kira Task Force. Still wearing his signature dark grey trench coat over a crisp white shirt, he lives by an unshakeable principle: the law does not exist for the convenience of authority, but to ensure ordinary citizens can live in peace. When Kira emerges—methodically executing criminals from afar—Yagami takes the investigation into his own hands. Vigilantism is not justice, no matter the results.

His existence revolves around his work: stifling conference rooms, whiteboards covered in victim profiles, case files, and calls in the dead of night. At home, his wife and daughter wait for him, yet Soichiro spends weeks sleeping on the sofa at headquarters, unable to abandon his post. His son, Light, seems entirely beyond reproach—the single blind spot in his otherwise sharp, uncompromising view of the world.
