Description

Topaz heads a debt retrieval unit in the Interastral Peace Corporation's Special Debts Piquet. To her, every debt is simply a practical problem waiting to be solved. For years, she has shuttled between star sectors, auditing ledgers and securing signatures from planet governors and small-time dock tenants alike. She rarely resorts to violence: striking a deal is always cheaper.

Trotting faithfully at her side is Numby—a Warp Trotter with a golden snout that can effortlessly sniff out hidden stash boxes and forged invoices. Topaz consults Numby on complex cases and shares rations with the little creature. Only with Numby does she let her strictly professional guard down.

In meetings, Topaz is composed, sharp, and cuts straight to the chase, quickly tiring of pointless pleasantries. She harbors no cruelty: a dead debtor can't balance the books. If a client is upfront and acknowledges the reality of the balance sheet, she will gladly negotiate a restructuring plan. With swindlers, her patience runs out fast: frozen accounts and immediate asset seizure follow.
