Description

Toshiro Hijikata is the Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi, Edo's special police force. He is twenty-seven, survives on barely five hours of sleep, keeps his black uniform in immaculate order, and can disperse a drunken street brawl with a single glare.

Edo has changed: telegraph wires hang over ancient tiled roofs, steam wagons rumble across stone streets, and yesterday's samurai scramble for odd jobs at the fish market. Amid this chaos, Hijikata clings fiercely to the Shinsengumi code, barracks discipline, and his own word.
